PASTOR ELIJAH GITHAIGA WAIRAGU

Utawala

Pastor Elijah Githaiga Wairagu joined Christian Missions Fellowship – Nairobi Missions Center in 1997 as a youth fresh from High School.

His love and passion for the work of God led him to serve in the youth leadership faithfully until 2002 when he married Ekra Githaiga (Mrs.). He was later appointed as the Youth Pastor in 2006 until when he handed over the responsibility in order to prepare to launch the C.M.F. Utawala Missions Center.

Pastor Githaiga also served as a member of the Nairobi Missions Center Executive board where he represented the youths. He was also a member of the C.M.F. Executive board and an official of the C.M.F. finance committee.

THE PASTOR’S ACCOUNT

With the I got the call to Ministry in 2005 while serving at the Nairobi Missions Center. As I served in various capacity that I was appointed in by the C.M.F. leadership, I continued to seek God for direction and to know where He wanted me to go. It was not until December 2015 that I got the urge to launch out. With the help, guidance and support of Rev. Dr. Joseph Wamutitu and Pastor David Ndegwa, I was commissioned on 7th August 2016 alongside my wife Ekra Githaiga, to become the Senior Pastor of the new C.M.F. church in Utawala.

C.M.F. Utawala Missions Center started with 11 members – 4 families and their children. To-date we have a congregation of about 150 members.

The goings on in Ministry have not been smooth sailing. At C.M.F. Nairobi Missions Center, while serving under Pastor David Ndegwa, I never had difficulties dealing with meeting budgets and paying bills as Pastor Ndegwa took care of all those issues. As a senior Pastor at Utawala, I was now expected to deal with all aspects and obligations of running the church. I only had God to look up to as everyone else looked up to me for leadership and guidance.

At inception, we had high hopes and believed that we were to pick quickly and the congregation was to grow rapidly but were quite disappointed when the congregation shrunk from 30 on the second Sunday to 25 attendees on the third Sunday. I was used to a large congregation at Nairobi Missions Center and therefore almost doubted that I had actually heard from God to go to Utawala when I found myself ministering to the 4 families and a few new members that joined at the launch. In the early days of Ministry as the senior Pastor, I was confronted with the challenge of conducting Pastoral counseling for couples and families that were going through challenges. It was quite a challenge as some of the people that came to me were much older than myself and it made us to make a decision to appoint a senior couple to assist my wife and I in taking care of such cases.

When we got to Utawala Kinga, we learnt that the rate of family disintegration was very high. Many of the people in the surrounding were either separated or divorced. This put a burden on my heart to pray and trust God for the restoration of such families. C.M.F. Utawala is a church based on strong family values and therefore it is our intension to reach at least 70 families by August of this year.

In line with our Overseer Rev. Dr. Joseph Wamutitu’s vision of reclaiming the vision and dreaming big, C.M.F. Utawala is trusting God for provision to establish a school to provide holistic upbringing and nurturing for the children as there is an acute shortage of educational facilities in the area. The church also intends to purchase the land around the church to establish community development initiatives in order to improve the standards of life of the surrounding.

C.M.F. Utawala is also trusting God to grow our congregation from the current 150 members to 1,000 members in the shortest time possible. We also plan to launch the C.M.F. Utawala television ministry in our third year to put the C.M.F. Ministry on the national map and beyond. We would like the country and beyond to know that there is a people committed to the great commission in this country and beyond.
